Notes: Judge Trewhitt was a civic leader in Bradley County. In 1861, though he was in his 60's, he was arrested and imprisioned by the Confederacy without trial after Union sympathizers burned several bridges in East Tennessee. Despite numerous appeals for his release and testimony that he actively discouraged participation in the rebellion againts the Confederacy, he was not released, and he died in prison camp in Mobile, Alabama.
