From: A Scofield Family Portrait by Steven Walling Barrett

Daniel (b. abt. 1599/1615m d, c1679) was the immigrant ancestor, born in Rockdale, Lancastershire, England. At about age 37 (approx. 1632), he left his home in England with his younger brother Richard for what must have been an unknown future in the new world. He and Richard arrived in the Boston area in the early 1630s, but did not tarry there long. Richard went in one direction and Daniel went in another direction. About late 1635, Daniel moved to Wethersfield, Conn. and may have been one of the town's original settlers. Unfortunately a few years later religious differences arose within the Wethersfield settlement, and in 1641 Rev. Richard Denton led Daniel (and others of the Wethersfield congregation) south to what is now Stamford. Daniel was one of the original 1641 Stamford settlers and Stamford is where the Scofields hung their hats for about 300 years. Indeed there are still Scofield residents in Stamford today. Daniel was not only an original settler of Stamford but a very active one. On 7 Dec. 1641 he was given his two-acre home lot as a first settler and over time acquired eleven (11) or twelve (12) additional pieces of land totaling in excess of 50 acres, including part of a "tobako" lot. He became Stamford's first Marshall (1658). As a town official, he must have been an active member of the church. Some time before 1640, Daniel married Sarah (d. 1698 Milford, Conn.), daughter of Rev. John Youngs (another indicator he was active in the church). There were five known children. His will was dated 4 Sep. 1669 and was proved 10 Mar 1670. And, after his death, Sarah married second in 1670 Miles Merwin. [Miles Merwin was the immigrant, b. c1623, d. 23 April 1697; m. (1) Elizabeth (surname unknown) who died 10 July 1664.]
