Notes: Humphrey Madison's origins are obscure. I know of no contemporaneous documentation of his parents. He is almost always presented as a grandson of President James Madison's great-grandfather, John Madison, Jr (1640-1705). Most online trees and stories list Humphrey as the son of John Madison III and John's first wife Eliza Minor (whose origins appear to be completely undocumented). He is listed as a son of John Madison III's brother Thomas in only a couple of resources that I've found, including the 1903 book Reminisces of Eastern Oregon by Mrs. Elizabeth Lord. Humphrey married Mary Dickinson on 17 Aug 1753 in Augusta County, Virginia, USA.
