Intermarriage between the Myers and Billingsley families in East Central Tennessee in the middle of the 19th century

When 5 Myers siblings married 5 Billingsley Family Members - 3 siblings, a cousin and a nephew

The Myers siblings were the children of John Blackburn Moyers and Mary Snoddy of Jefferson County (later Warren County), TN

The Billingsley siblings were the children of John Billingsley and Martha Blackwood (both from North Carolina) and were born in Bledsoe County, Tennessee.

Their cousin John M Billingsley was the son of John Billingsley's brother Samuel Billingsley Jr

Their nephew Leander Travis Hutcheson was the son of Nancy Samantha Billingsley, a fourth child of John & Martha.

MYERS EXCURSUS

JOHN [BLACKBURN] MYERS was born in North Carolina in 1792, he married in 1812 Mary Snoddy, born North Carolina in 1790. She was a daughter of [Albert] Thomas Snoddy, born 1761, died 1839 and Hannah Davis, born 1767, died 1839, married 1786; and a grand daughter of John Snoddy, born Ireland 1720, died 1784, and Agnes Glasgow, born 1722, died 1806, married 1741 at Philadelphia, Pa. and were parents of two sons, Thomas, see above, and William G. Snoddy. John [Blackburn] Myers and his wife [Mary Snoddy] were in Tennessee prior to 1815; they were residents of Warren County in 1860 where Mary died in 1869; he survived her and died in 1875.

  2. Thomas [Snoddy] Myers: b 1818 Tenn., m Martha [Jane] Billingsley [dau of John & Martha], see No. 88.
  3. John N. Myers: b 1820 Tenn., m prior to 1856 Naty b Tenn. 1837, resided Warren Co., Tenn. They had, known:
    1. Leonora Myers: b 1856.
    2. Aden Myers: b 1858.
    3. Caledonia Myers: b 1859.
  4. Mary Blackburn Myers: b 1823, m James Davis Billingsley [son of John & Martha], No. 214, which see.
  5. Susan Jane Myers: b 9 Jan. 1827, m Andrew [Blackwood] Billingsley [son of John & Martha], No. 213, which see.
  6. Melicinie Myers: b 183_ , m a Mr. McGregor, she died young and left a daughter, Tennie, who was reared by Rev. James D. Billingsley; she [Tennie] married Samuel Owens, resided Rockwood, Tenn.
  7. Philip M. Myers: b 1832, m prior to 1859 Sarah, b Tenn. 1833, resided Warren Co., Tenn. in 1860. They had, known:
    1. Benjamin Myers: b 1859.
  8. Narcissus Ann Myers: b 1834, m Flavius Joseph Hutcheson, son of John Hutcheson and Nancy [Jane] Billingsley [dau of John & Martha], see No. 88.

Ancestry of the Myers Siblings

Narcissa Ann Myers, one of the five siblings, is my great, great grandmother. Her father, John Blackburn Moyers, was the first of the Moyers family to have been born in Tennessee. He used the name Moyers (including in his writings), but his children all took the name Myers.
