Thomas Wentworth, gentleman, (according to Maryland Records) was born in Yorkshire, England. Perhaps Thomas and his family immigrated to America to escape religious persecution. In Maryland he was the owner of Wentworth-Woodhouse (said to have been named for the grand family home in Yorkshire, England at http://www.gleaden.plus.com/landmarks/wentwoodhse.htm with the home in England named after the two families who were joined by the 1239 marriage of Emma Woodhouse, born 1220, and Robert Wentworth, born 1218.) In Maryland he also owned Wentworth's Rest Plantation, a tobacco plantation.
He was related to Sir Thomas Wentworth, Lord Protestor of Ireland, who was beheaded by Cromwell. (See: http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/ThomasWentworth(1BNettlestead).htm)
